About Katharine
Katharine is a multidisciplinary storyteller who crafts stories with words and images for audiences of all ages.
Katharine earned a BA in Communication Studies from the University of Sunderland in 2000 and a Master of Media Arts from UTS in 2007. She began her television career as a runner for Talkback Productions in London, before moving to Sydney in 2002 to further her work in the media industry.
Building on her early experience, she has directed award-winning short films and digital content for iconic Australian brands like Sydney Opera House and the ABC. She was a Digital Producer at the ABC for five years, writing, producing, and directing content for broadcast and online. During her time at the ABC, she created the smash-hit Story Salad and Gardening Buds podcasts, as well as directing multiple on-air promos and a 20-episode series for ABC iView.
Her passion for filmmaking has also seen her recognised as an award-winning filmmaker, with short films screened at global festivals, cinemas in the USA and Australia, and on Virgin In-Flight Entertainment.
Continuing to expand her storytelling reach, in 2022 her debut picture book Cockatoo Magic was published and appeared on the Kids Best Seller list at Better Read Than Dead Bookshop in Newtown.
Most recently, in 2024 Katharine was a Screen Lecturer in BA Production at AFTRS, working with graduating students on their final films. She also continues to share her expertise by tutoring emerging filmmakers at Bus Stop Films, where she has directed two projects: the horror film Blank Canvas and the documentary Unstoppable.
“Katharine has never stopped pushing to make and champion work that is bold, relevant and distinctive.”
“A born storyteller, Katharine has always been passionate about sharing her and others’ stories.”
